We took the quiz on WS 2 and spent most of the time discussing Coulomb's Law Lab. We made two new data sets with graphs, one with 1/Separation Distance for the x axis and the original "Force" data for the y-axis. The second set was 1/(Separation Distance)^2 for the x axis and the original "Force" data for the y-axis. We made a linear fit for each data set and used the correlation value front the linear fit to determine which data set showed a stronger relationship. The follow-up for the lab discussion is below.
Discussion Questions:
•Describe
your first graph (Separation distance vs. Distance hanging sphere
moved-”Force”). What type of
relationship does this show.
•Explain
what you did with the separation distance mathematically. Show your work for two calculations of 1/d
and 1/d2.
•Which
showed a stronger relationship. What
type of relationship is it.
•What
is the “General Model” (i.e. Coulomb’s Law)? What does each variable in the
equation mean?
The last 20 minutes of the period we compared the gravitational attraction between a proton and electron with the electric attraction.
